I walked through the door. "Mom, I'm home," I yelled, even though she knew. She had a know-what-your-children-are-up-to fairy, which wasn't so doos as it seemed--at least to me. At least she knew where I was, so she couldn't loose me, but she knew if I was trying to do something secret. At least she was pretty loose about it.

"Okay, honey!" she yelled. "I'll be up in my room if you want me."

I threw my backpack on the floor and plopped on a chair in the kitchen, opening a yogurt. I reached out and grabbed a book from the center of the table and started to read.
